After the last 2 assignments my website has taken on a new role so I will update the concept to better reflect the website.

As the American elections are looming on the horizon the question about who will be the next President of the United States arises. Should we as citizens of the world just accept the selection of the American people or is this a global issue. The idea behind this proposal is to gather opinions and ultimately conduct a world vote for the next President of the United States of America. This is based on the idea that the selection of this person has such a huge effect on so many other countries and world situations for example: As a citizen of the world would you have voted George Bush in for a second term as US President?

The way I will implement this is using RSS feeds, Web Video, Polls and Images. Ultimately I would like this to have a documentary look and feel so that people are presented with the idea of choice and can see the facts plainly by the community and not by the author of the website.

For instance someone may come onto the Web Site and look up some RSS feeds. The person might make a decision based on the feeds (and of course any prior knowledge) and respond by using the polls as more traditional method or express a comment via a video blogs. People will also be invited to submit to other web sites.

With the documentary look in mind it should also have a serious tone and should be conservative to let the community shown be the websites life force

The website must have a strong community and talk on both on the issues and candidates. The role of the website defiantly needs to be focused on get many people options not just in creating static articles. The website should be defiantly be community driven.

Through this web site the people should be better-informed about the elections , the candidates and the issues so that America and the world could become better understanding about the state of the world and America place in it.

Over the the last couple of days I have been busy Putting together my Video blog assignment.

I decided to make to make some mini documentary’s that would look at various view points on the American election. I also decided to keep the editing simple and reiteratively clean so as not to distract the viewer. By doing this i would not detract from actual interview

The Inteview should be a Talking head style so feel as if they were talking to you about the American election.

These video blogs would not have been possible if it was not for…..

Lorenzo Green
Rory Rackham
Jeffrey Cochrane
Caleb Jones
Bruce Rampton
Denis Delany
Stephen Revill
Craig Johnson

Thanks for all your help.

This Article is challenging the idea of what truth is and discussin the point where truth and falsehood become one. Especially when something is so terrible it cannot possibly be true. Sometimes what is real seems completely unreal in its realness. What is happening in life can be more terrible than anything that could be made up or fabricated. So, how do we know what is true and what is false?

Things are now what they always seem. We are observers in life and have a voyeuristic view on life. Detachment …. Should we really be watching…is it our business? Perhaps there should be some separation.

Science overpowers man and religion. Is science the new religion? Second life is the ultimate cut off from the real world because you no longer live a “real life” anymore. The computer emulates life….What is the real world?

Overall, althought I liked this assignment because of the limited footage (which forced me to be more creative). The absence of sound initially was quite daunting which made me aware of how important sound was in the film. I was happy with the final result and my final cut. I learnt a few more things about Avid which builds onto my skillls base in this area. I had used the After Effects program before but felt that I had a better grounding in it having utilised it for this assignment.

As a group many different examples of the same footage were used. What amazed me was the way that we came up with such varied stories and individual ways of looking at the available material. One thing I leant from watching the short films is that I need to spend more time using the After Effects program and focus more on details. In general I can see that I can just keep building on my skills and knowledge in this area.

In the end I probably will want to do this again for 2009.

I think it would be interesting to see the man in the mask to be there in one shot but to disappear in the next. The narrative or story line that I want to portray is that of the man in the mask being scared of the little boy.He just watches the boy from a distance. I don’t want the situation to resolve itself through the movie, merely to express their relationship of lonelyness and uncertainty. With this in mind I want to look at music that makes you feel desolate and somehow detached.

In this article Lev talks about how remixing will play a greater role in society. One example of remixing which was interesting is that an animation studio in Amsterdam Orange was opening up all its source material on an extended edition DVD under the Creative Commons. The reason why this interested me was that many corporate media company still have not understood the concepts being behind the web and its philosophies of being an open source arena where anyone can share information. This is one of the reasons why I disapprove of some aspects of Flash. While Flash does improve interactivity in the web it does not allow the end user to take the file apart and see how it works. If more companies could do what Orange has done, we would have access to more knowledge and better understanding of the ideas behind our projects.

Overall Lev Manovich talks about how much remixing goes on in the Web 2.0 version of the internet. But I see that we as a community still have a long way to go before we truly have an open source world.
